Background
Coulsdon Model Car Racing Club, As its name suggests, Was founded In Coulsdon. It was founded by Don Mathies circa 1964 and was located behind the Midland Bank. Don actually worked for the bank. The bank charged us £0.10s per month at that time and this was the amount paid for many years. We raced there for approximately 40 years until our landlord’s Midland bank needed the space for other uses in approximately 2005 and we had to move!
We found premises in our current location in Bletchingley, and work started on the clubroom in 2005 and we have been racing there ever since, approximately 16 years this year.
So 2023 will mark our 56th anniversary. This must put us in contention as one of the oldest clubs in the UK, still in operation.
In 2005 after the new location was found, several members worked really hard to move the club and get the new club room ready for a new track.
Affiliation
We are currently registered with the BSCRA (British Slot Car Racing Association) and come under their area 8 and take part in inter-club competitions within that area.
